Clean Truck Check applies to most diesel and alternative fueled heavy-duty vehicles with a GVWR over 14,000 pounds operating in California, including buses, motorhomes, and agricultural vehicles.

CARB Emission Testing Requirements beginning 2025:

​

  • All Diesel fueled heavy-duty vehicles with an engine year of 2013 or newer must submit OBD test

  • All Diesel fueled heavy-duty vehicles with an engine year of 2012 or older must submit SAE J-1667 Opacity Test & Visual Inspection 

  • All alternative fueled (CNG) heavy-duty vehicles 2018 and newer must submit OBD test

  • All alternative fueled (CNG) heavy-duty vehicles 2017 and older must submit Visual Inspection

All vehicles that do not pass the test must be repaired and retested within 30 days.

The Clean Truck Check Program

does not apply to: 

​

  • Zero-emission trucks

  • Military tactical vehicles

  • Authorized emergency vehicles

  • Motorhomes registered outside of California

  • Vehicles operating under an experimental permit

  • Historical vehicles

  • Gasoline vehicles

  • We offer on-site and in-house emissions testing around your schedule with our state certified technicians. 

  • Beginning 2025 CA registered vehicles will have testing deadlines based off of DMV registration expiration date, Vehicles registered out of CA will have deadlines accoring to the last digit of their VIN.

  • Opacity levels must meet limits of 5% or less (with some exceptions)

  • Opacity test to be submitted to CARB by the tested

  • OBD tests are automatically electronically  submitted to CARB
